Rhine Falls tours at a glance
Almost every Rhine Falls tour starts in Zurich, so the choice is about format and length. You can join a guided coach trip, book a private driver-guide, add chocolate and cheese, or combine the falls with a city tour. Lengths on this page run from about 3.75 hours for a private castle visit to 12 hours for the chocolate and cheese day. A rhine falls tour from Zurich is a good fit if you want transport and entry sorted in one booking.
If you prefer to travel on your own by train, read our page on Zurich to Rhine Falls. For the entrance fees and monthly opening hours, see the tickets page.

Our picks: Rhine Falls day trips
Our take: the Stein am Rhein tour fits a half day, while the chocolate and cheese trip fills a whole day. The Lindt small-group day suits chocolate fans, and the Black Forest tour is a private option for a long day out.

Coach tours with Laufen Castle entry
The classic guided half day.
The coach tours leave from a bus station in Zurich and drive to the falls. One guided tour of about 4 hours lists a multilingual guide, a coach and admission to the Rhine Falls at Laufen Castle. A longer tour of about 5 hours adds a guided walk through Stein am Rhein and lists entry to the falls and to the castle. On both, a boat ride is optional and extra, payable on the spot, so plan it separately and see our boat tour page for the operator's own rides.
A small-group tour of about 4.5 hours lists round-trip transport from Zurich, access to the viewing platforms, tickets to the Rhine Falls and a driver-guide. It states that you have no guide during the activities, and boat tickets are bought on the day. A similar tour is listed by a second provider with the same inclusions.
One point matters this season: the Historama exhibition at the castle is closed for renovation until 27 November 2026. Some listings mention the exhibition in their inclusions, so do not count on it before that date.
Rhine Falls chocolate and cheese day trips
The falls as one stop on a long day.
Chocolate and cheese from Zurich
The 12-hour day lists round-trip transport from Zurich, a driver-guide, a self-guided visit to the Rhine Falls, a visit to the Chocolarium and to the Appenzeller Schaukäserei, a tasting of Swiss chocolate and cheese and a visit to a typical Swiss village. Meals and drinks are not included, and the guide does not accompany you at each stop.
Lindt Home of Chocolate and Stein am Rhein
This small-group day of about 8 hours lists a walking tour in Zurich, a visit to the Lindt Home of Chocolate with a chocolate tasting, the Rhine Falls and Stein am Rhein, with pick-up and drop-off from the address you choose. Meals are not included.
Because the chocolate and cheese programme fills most of the day, the time at the falls is shorter than on a half-day tour. If the waterfall is your main reason to come, a guided half day gives more time at the water. Our page on Stein am Rhein covers the town stop that appears in several combinations.
Zurich city tour with Rhine Falls
One booking for the city and the falls.
If you have a single day, two formats combine Zurich with the falls. A 5-hour bus round trip lists a driver-guide, entrance to the Rhine Falls and a Zurich open top sightseeing tour. A private day of about 9 hours lists an air-conditioned vehicle, the entrance fee, round-trip door-to-door hotel transfers within Zurich and a local driver-guide, with a fully customisable itinerary. The private tour does not include a boat ride, so add that on site if you want one.
A private tour of about 3.75 hours with a driver-guide in a Mercedes lists Laufen Castle and the entrance tickets to the falls. It suits you if you want the castle platforms with little time and your own pace. A Black Forest combination also exists, but it takes you away from the falls for most of the day.
For excursions starting in Lucerne instead of Zurich, see our guide to Lake Lucerne.
What to check before you book
Four points that cause most surprises.
Boat or no boat
On the coach tours the boat is optional. Rides run on a seasonal plan, and in November 2026 they are limited to weekends until 29 November. Check the current timetable for later dates. Read the details on the boat page.
Entry and platforms
There is no general entrance fee for the falls. A tour that lists entry usually means the Laufen Castle tour with its platforms. See the tickets page for the fees.
Start point
Coach tours start at a bus station and some private tours collect you at your hotel. Check the meeting point in the booking.
Meals and drinks
Food and drinks are not part of the tours described here, except where a tasting is listed.
